🦫 How Long Does A Dpf Regen Take
+1 My Sprinter did a regen cycle after I reached the summit of a long mountain climb. I watched the DPF temp climb from 750^ to 1200^ in a matter of seconds. About 10 minutes later it was back to "normal" in the 500^ range. I also like to know whats going on. The Scangauge2 is a good product. _____
95% of people don't know anything about DPFs and regen (I didn't before owning a diesel) and most of them also don't notice the car is even regenerating or needs to until they get a clogged DPF from doing 2 mile trips to work for years on end.
For most drive conditions, regeneration frequency will vary from 100 - 600 miles (161 - 804 Km) between occurrence and last from 10 to 40 minutes. The first regeneration does not require 100 miles (161 Km) and may occur at any time. The length of regeneration is usually reduced if a constant speed above 30 MPH (48 Km/h) is maintained.
Consult the owner’s manual, and do what it says. A flashing orange DPF light (or whatever the primary activation mode is) just tells you that the filter is getting loaded up, and a burn or regeneration is necessary and/or overdue. The car knows this because it measures the pressure drop across the DPF.
Alright, let’s talk about keeping your DPF in tip-top shape. One of the keys to a healthy DPF is regeneration, which helps to burn off trapped soot particles. There are 2 types of regeneration: passive and active. Let’s break them down. Passive Regeneration: This is the low-key kind of regeneration that happens during normal driving
I love having the gauge in the instrument cluster that show the level of the DPF, as well as when it is actively in regen mode. I watched the first couple regen cycles and it happened to kick off when I expected, the filter was about half capacity, and I had hit the highway and held speed for about 15 minutes when it started regen. 20 or so
With the VGT turbos on a Cummins they close them to about 89% to increase exhaust back pressure, which increases load on the engine, which increases exhaust heat. 1100 is fast enough. Regens can last up to 2.5 hours with an ISX. 40 mins is about average. Keep track as best you can how long they are taking.

Best to keep RPM in operating range like 1800 RPM+. what happens when regen light stay on and won't go out. You need to contact your local dealer it could be locked up in a Regeneration.
